Saved air filters from the 1960s offer unique "time travel"

Originally collected for monitoring radioactive fallout, these filters have preserved decades of environmental DNA from plants, fungi, and animals, enabling researchers to reconstruct past ecosystems and track biodiversity change over time in northern Sweden.
